Gateway to Iceland · Reykjavik

A minibus of 17, lunch included

Gateway to Iceland takes 17 guests at most to the Gerðuberg basalt columns, the seals at Ytri Tunga and a sit-down lunch in Arnarstapi, then splits its Kirkjufell time between the falls and the mountain. It's the smallest group of the Reykjavik day tours, with the meal sorted.

Snæfellsnes Minibus Tour with Lunch

About this experience

Gateway to Iceland runs this tour only in minibuses of 17 or fewer, with a driver-guide. The first stop is Gerðuberg, a long wall of basalt columns, for 20 minutes. Then come the seals at Ytri Tunga (30 minutes) and the Arnarstapi cliffs (30 minutes), followed by lunch at Samkomuhúsið, the old village hall in Arnarstapi, with 45 minutes at the table. The tour's own description calls it the best place in Iceland to try lamb soup. After passing below Snæfellsjökull you get 20 minutes at Kirkjufellsfoss and 10 at the mountain itself, plus 20 minutes at Djúpalónssandur.

It's the most family-friendly listing here. There's no minimum age, infant seats are available and the tour is listed as stroller accessible. Pickup follows the city's rules: hotels in the restricted centre use a numbered tour bus stop (a blue pillar with a pink bus sign), never the yellow-and-red Strætó city bus stops.

Three caveats. At $234 it's the most expensive day tour on this site. The tour needs at least four adults to run; a 2023 guest whose date fell short was moved to a similar EastWest tour, and enjoyed it. And with 55 reviews, many of them years old, there's less recent feedback than for the EastWest farm lunch tour, its closest rival. Djúpalónssandur gets only 20 minutes.

  • The Gerðuberg basalt columns, a stop other tours skip

★★★★★

EXCELLENT! We had such a wonderful time touring Snaefellsnes! We ended up with such a small tour group that our guide, Thrond, was able to take us to a few extra stops for pictures - and a stop for the best carrot cake I've ever had (Hótel Snaefellsnes).

We were lucky with this tour! Amazing weather! Small group of just 4 people plus a guide, made it a private tour experience. Pleasant fun tour guide. We saw a lot and enjoyed our day very much.

I absolutely loved this tour, it was my goal to get some shots of Kirkjufell and Snæfellsjökull on my trip to Iceland, this enabled me to meet that goal and see so many breathtaking sights along the way.

Tips before you book

  • Confirm your bus stop number and wait at exactly that pillar. Strætó city stops are the wrong ones.
  • Tell the operator about dietary needs before the day. The restaurant decides what it can do.
  • Bring snacks and water: only lunch is included.
  • Use the toilets at lunch. Facilities are scarce on the north coast.
  • Book a day or two early in your stay, in case the tour doesn't reach four adults and you need to rebook.
