Gray Line Iceland · Reykjavik (BSÍ terminal)

The Golden Circle, another day

Gray Line's coach covers Iceland's other classic loop, Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir hot springs and Gullfoss, in about six and a half hours from Reykjavik. It doesn't go near Kirkjufell: book it for a different day, as the short, cheap partner to a long Snæfellsnes trip.

Golden Circle Classic Day Tour

About this experience

We list this one for a simple reason. Kirkjufell takes a whole day, and most visitors also want the Golden Circle, which lies east of Reykjavik while Snæfellsnes lies to the north-west. You can't do both well in one day. Gray Line's classic tour leaves from the BSÍ terminal or a pickup stop and covers Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland's parliament first met in 930 and the rift between the American and Eurasian plates runs through the valley, then the Geysir area, where Strokkur shoots up around 30 m, and the two-tier Gullfoss waterfall.

The listing gives 30 minutes at Þingvellir, about an hour at Geysir and 40 minutes at Gullfoss, with restaurants and toilets at the stops. An app-based audio guide covers several languages; bring your own headphones. It's wheelchair accessible with a foldable chair and a companion, and stroller accessible.

It's a big operation: coaches carry up to 100, and one guest found the stops more crowded than on other tours. Pickup is from numbered bus stops, not hotel doors, so look up yours on busstop.is and be there 30 minutes before departure. A September 2026 guest was marked a no-show after waiting at the wrong stop. Anyone with coeliac disease should bring food: one guest found nothing safe at the lunch stop.

What guests say

★★★★★

A excellent day tour highlighting the main attractions of the Golden Circle. Our guide was informative and personable. The Coach bus was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed each stop at Thingvellar National Park, Steokkur Geysir and Gulfoss Falls. Had more than ample time at each stop to explore the sights.

The Golden Circle tour was excellent and exactly as described. Our guide provided useful and interesting information throughout the day, and the tour stayed on schedule. The stops were well planned, with opportunities for food and restroom breaks.

This was £400 cheaper than our cruises version of the same trip. Good commentary at key moments without constant verbal noise. The sights were amazing and we had enough time at each place to explore and get souvenirs, go to the loo and get food.

Fantastic way to introduce you to some highlights if you’re short on time. It was very informative and included 3 stops. Our guide, Richie was great, full of stories and information about the area.

Tips before you book

  • Look up your stop on busstop.is and be there 30 minutes early. A guest marked as a no-show got no refund.
  • Bring headphones for the audio guide app.
  • Get off the coach quickly at each stop if you want to hear the guide's walk-and-talk.
  • Bring snacks if you have dietary needs. The lunch stop's choice is limited.
  • Book it for a different day from your Kirkjufell tour, ideally a day of worse weather on the west coast.
