Arctic Adventures · Reykjavik
Arctic Adventures runs a minibus of 19 to the peninsula with about 40 minutes at Kirkjufell, plus Djúpalónssandur, the black church at Búðir and Arnarstapi. Pick it if the mountain is the reason you're going: no other day tour from Reykjavik gives it more time.

Arctic Adventures starts at 8:00 and only collects from the points on its pickup list: no hotels in the restricted centre, no Airbnbs. Pick the closest point when you book. The itinerary is simpler than most. The listing gives two hours to Snæfellsnes sights along the way, then 40 minutes at Kirkjufell, 35 at Djúpalónssandur, 15 at Búðakirkja and 45 in Arnarstapi. The whole day runs about 12 hours.
Forty minutes changes the stop. On a 20-minute visit you walk to the falls, take the photo and turn back. With twice that you can follow the stream, photograph the mountain from both sides of the footbridge, and wait for the light or for a gap in the crowd. You still won't go up: West Iceland's tourism site says climbing is strictly prohibited in winter and urges everyone to enjoy the mountain from a safe viewpoint. The photo guide lists the best spots for a longer stop.
The caveats are in the numbers. It's rated 4.6 from 76 reviews, the lowest of the Reykjavik small groups, and the dated reviews we have are older than the others (2023 and 2024). Meals aren't included; one guide took a group to a local restaurant for lunch, which you pay for. Children need to be 6, and pay the child rate up to 12.
Wait at the listed pickup point closest to your accommodation. City-centre hotels and Airbnbs aren't served.
North out of Reykjavik, with Snæfellsnes sights along the way, about two hours of them in the listing.
The longest stop of any day tour: time for the falls, the footbridge and the view from both banks.
35 minutes on the black beach, then the black church at Búðir.
45 minutes on the cliffs at Arnarstapi before the drive back, about 12 hours after you left.
★★★★★The entire trip was like a trip to another world. The sites selected for us to visit were amazing. Our driver, Dominica, selected a special spot for lunch - Matalist- it was amazing food.
★★★★★Guide (Domenica's driving and patter were excellent). Was lucky enough to have stunning weather. Locations were relevant; interesting and sometimes inspiring. [...] Am an Iceland Guide myself so was hoping for something good and have 'stolen' some ideas! :)
★★★★★There was a wind warning the day we went on our tour, but such is Iceland! Our guide, Carlos, was amazingly upbeat and positive in the face of adversity when we had a few things go wrong. The sights are amazing, and it was such a good experience.
